The saga continues...

Been too busy to write down posts, but now more than ever I'll have a lot to write about. My office space, as well as my living space is really cluttered and is a complete mess. I'm going to spend the entirety of next week cleaning it. My PC broke down but at least I'm on my way to fixing my laptop. More on that soon.

My writer's block is gone! Which came at a bad time cause I been studying so much, but I've been writing by hand a lot every chance I get. I have to be really organized next year cause I'm gonna be doing too many things to keep up with, writing being one of them. But studying is, in a certain sense, counter-productive in my life right now. It's been hard to keep a business going and study, and do everything else I gotta do. Next year besides my writing I plan to also keep going with my regular Telecomm business, become a dev for Android and Blackberry Playbook via Adobe Air, make stuff for the iOS, and for once make time to just chill out and do fun things.

At one point though everything, and I mean everything, became extremely difficult. My laptop and PC died almost simultaneously. Now I fixed my laptop, cause I got a new hard drive, but I still need a stick of ram (2gb worth) and a new keyboard which I will be buying soon. What I don't know is if I wanna buy new PC parts or a mac mini. I love the prospect of owning a Mac, but at the same time the PC solution is equally as powerful, and way cheaper. I'll figure that out as I go along though. I'll hopefully keep this blog posted and updated as time passes!

Still cleaning

I'm still cleaning my office space, at least my work area is completely organized. Its just all the crap I have. I definitely wanna move out soon, parent and 24 year old me is starting to get stale, and I wanna try things on my own. For now I have to study for the A+ exams and see how that goes, that will hopefully land me a few contracts that will get my business running.

Back to fighting with my wifi card...

VM Frustrations & Organizational Woes

Posts are kinda far in between aren't they? Well it's partly due to the fact that I find very little time to run in here and write. For some reason though, my writing flicker has turned on, and I am gonna give you guys some advice along with my sob story.

As part of my tech job in the field of PCs and Telecommunications it is my job to fix the crap that can't be fixed normally. I guess maybe I'm such a good tech that people come to me for problems that are way above and beyond the normal happenings. I've been able to fix things no problem so far, but there's a few things that are irking me. First of these things is a Dell Inspiron 5000. The previous user in an attempt to be a genius of security put a password on the BIOS, only he wrote it down somewhere and lost it while he was moving. There is a way to crack it but it's missing a CD Drive that I *think* had the Dell Service Tag number on it and as such I can't crack it. I have a Windows 2000 with a broken boot and the BIOS is set up to boot only from the HDD. Big problem huh? I even tried to physically erase the BIOS settings by crossing the chip pins, and while that did reset the BIOS it didn't the password. I needed to fix this laptop because I needed to fix a radio. You see this is one of two computers in my possession (of the seven in the house) that actually have a 9-Pin Serial Port physically on it. In order to fix the radio I have to use a Radio Programming Interface that connects to the 9-Pin port. Since both PCs are dead, I had to buy a USB-to-9-Pin connector, but since it's not a physical COM1 port I can't use it on the programs that run in DOS only. Windows XP of course doesn't run DOS apps, so my solution was to get VirtualBox (after the nightmarish VMWare, never get that!) and install a copy of Windows ME. I was so close and after hours of frustration trying to configure the COM1 port I realized that it's USB and thus neither Windows ME nor VirtualBox actually support it. My solution to this is to order a few used PCs (that are recent and upgradeable) that has a physical 9-Pin port that I can use and install Windows ME on that. So, I guess later I will have to say if I did it or not.

If anyone has ANY advice on getting the Dell Inspiron 5000 BIOS password reset, please let me know.

Speaking of advice, it's been more apparent than ever that my room is going to be my office for a lot longer than I thought. I thought maybe by October I'd be looking at some real office space but that's not gonna happen until at least January. It's been disorganized like crazy, and today's advice is CLEAN YOUR SPACE! Be it your home office space or your actual office space, keep it organized. I have a hard time with queues of work orders and all the crap I had accumulated before, but it's getting there. Hopefully I'll have it clean by Sunday!

Never let a client choose the hosting

Today I was working on finishing a site for a school and they already had hosting. The problem here is that it doesn't, for some reason, accept some of the code that allows viewing of flash videos. Also it's weird, it doesn't accept traditional index.html and blocks directory listings. I have to name the index files default.html and it works.

As a webdesigner you should have experience with a few hosts and have options that vary with pricing and what the client needs. As a general tip they should pay the domain and hosting themselves, this saves you headaches when they have to renew or use another webdesigner. But insist as much as you can for your own hosting option!

Long time no post

Heh it's just like me to start a blog and not post for awhile due to tome constraints. Anyhoo I'm developing a comic and though I can't give details I will give some insight into my brainstorming process of writing characters and then designing them. See you soon!

Hard copy or soft copy?

Well I said would post sooner but I didn't have time. Things did fortunately go well with the exam and reports. I still have to finish a bit but I can handle it in like an hour.

Anyway I was at a small music store in plaza las Americas and I saw this Hikaru utada album. I an always shocked and delighted to see jpop singers releasing stuff here. As I bought a ramones collection I thought "do I want to buy CDs from now on or do I want to buy digital copies? I love having a hard copy especially with my drive crashing a few times... But do I have the space? And if I do go for digital do I go the iTunes way? Any opinions are welcome here...

My Room is My Office

I write this post from an office space I hold very dear, and it happens to be the place I sleep too. Yes, I am (mostly) self-employed. I am a graphic designer, comic artist, a PC tech, and a student of telecommunications, all rolled into one. This is the tale of my endeavors, and might I say a lot of the times they are pretty interesting. How interesting? Well let’s put it this way. I am a procrastinator by excellence(more on that later). And, naturally, I had this week off and put off all the crap I have to do for the last two days of the week. By Sunday night, I have to have done at least 95% of a website I’m doing. It has some flash, but my partner keeps switching a lot of design stuff around so basically 80% of the work stuff I already had done I have to do again. It’s a bit of a pain in the ass to work. I also have a computer class exam, which is easy and not for another two weeks so I’ll worry about that later. What I am worried about is my telecomm exam. I have to do it by Tuesday, and my 12 page report on WiMax, which should actually be no problemo. I am also worried about certain drawings I have to have by Tuesday… But I will try to move that meeting. Anyway, I’ll check in soon about if I managed or not. Till next time!
